fanny hensel musikschule extension :: berlin, germany :: 2011

The idea for the extension came from the intent to create a landmark for the neighborhood. The extension mimics the proportions of the exisiting school but updates its form and tectonics. The concept was to have a spherical performance hall in the center of this glass cube. During the day, it would be transparent but at night it would glow.
All of the program was organized towards the "back" of the building, providing its users with a view of the park. In the front, none of the floor plates touch the façade so it does not interrupt the form of the sphere. The café was placed on the top floor to encourage customers to experience the entire building and to give them a view from a higher elevation.
